To have an organized culture of celebrating and recognizing the achievements of students, volunteers and staff. The Learning Centre for Georgina’s board members, staff and volunteers believe that learning is an experience that individuals enter into at different times and in different ways. It is our view that it is never too early nor too late to learn, for learning is a life-long process. We believe that all individuals who wish to improve their knowledge and skills through learning should be encouraged to do so, and that accessibility to learning is essential to developing a sense of well-being and quality of life. We value the people who work, volunteer and learn at our Centre, ensure that they are treated with respect and dignity, and recognize them for the achievements that they make towards their goals. As a community agency, we value and integrate into our daily operations the opinions and suggestions of our stakeholders, to ensure that change and growth is made in response to community needs and direction. The aim of the Learning Centre is to promote lifelong learning by helping individuals develop basic literacy and numeracy skills relevant to their personal goals. Learner goals may include becoming more able to function independently in their everyday activities, attendance in further training or education, and gaining/maintaining gainful employment. In the long range, these skills will enhance their opportunities to function and contribute effectively within the community. These skills will also contribute to the development of greater self-confidence and self-esteem. 1. Provide accessible, individualized learning opportunities for learners who wish to improve their communication, numeracy and life skills. 2.
