What the Learning Center for Georgina Means to me.......

Your life seems out of control, you have always had to depend on your brawn instead of your brain, there are several jobs you would like to do but you don't have the education you need to make the money you want. Everything seems hopeless, you don't know where to turn. If you turn to LEARNING in the yellow pages of your phone book, you would see Learning Center for Georgina, that's a good place to start.

The next step is gaining the courage to phone or walk in because as I know, once you walk in the door the rest of your life will change forever, in this secure nook, you will find sitting behind the front desk, a wonderful array of smiles, genuinely greeting you and welcoming you into The Wonderful World of Learning.

I had this inane idea that I was too old to start over, I would never get it and everybody had given up on me , why wouldn't this group of people, intimidation at its best, my life had fallen apart before my eyes, I had three beautiful children counting on me, I had three animals who trusted me to know there needs, bills, bills, and more bills. All that seemed appealing at this point was to crawl into a fetal position and melt into the earth without a trace, The Learning Center for Georgina changed a lot of that for me.

With little or no self esteem in my tragic little world, I enrolled myself into a better life for my children and myself, they saddled me up to a computer, the instructors explained everything to me and more, sat and talked with me about where I would like to see myself,(well at the time I didn't even know my own name let alone where my future was going)and gave me the confidence to better myself. The atmosphere is calm and light, there is no such word as "dumb" or "stupid", and there is always a broad shoulder waiting patiently. I had never experienced such compassion, dedication, and accomplishment as I did when I met Susan, Warren, Colleen, Lynn, and others that tirelessly work to make other peoples lives better, there is more then just greeting people, and helping with lessons that make this place very special. There are ordinary people like you and me that come in to tutor others on their own free time, anyone is welcome to Volunteer the criteria for this position is simply human compassion, and the knowledge of grades one to twelve or beyond. You should ask yourself is there an hour or two in my week where I could help better someone else's even with just a smile or a kind word? It's not only about learning, the Center also arranges different events to keep the Learning Center running and funded, such as a volleyball tournament on July 7 & 8, The ride for literacy, and other such events,they are always looking for sponsor and people to help out, it's a great way to give back to your community what they have provided for you, someone else you know or there could come a time when you need this great service.

The Center has introduced me to believing in myself, realizing my own wisdom and no one is ever alone here, the students as well as the instructors, have a gravitational pull, an energy beyond belief, we are all headed through the same journey here in one way or another, they are incredible human beings who have your best interest at heart, if you need an Angel on your shoulder, a better education, and a cheering section this is the place to be. It doesn't matter from what walk of life you come from, or that of which you live, if your heart dreams and wants a better way of life, dare to dream and come on in just to say hi, check it out, you won't be sorry, I DARE YOU.
